AN CRDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF ALL
POLICEMEN UNDER CIVIL SERVICE EMPLOYED BY THE CITY OF
WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS; REPEALING ALL PRIOR ORDINANCES IN-
CONSISTENT HEREWITH; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF
WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the positions herein enumerated in the
Police Department are classified under'Civil
Service in compliance with Section 8 of Article"1269m, of
the Revised Civil Statutes of Texas, as Amended, and in
compliance with a Final Decree of the District Court of
Wichita County, Texas.
A. All female employees of the City of Wichita
Falls Police Department shall have the classification of "po-
licewomen", and shall be ineligible to hold any other classi-
fication with the Police Department in said City.
B. All male employees of the Police Department
of the City of Wichita-Falls, shall have classifications
herein numbered 2 to 6, inclusive:
C. Classifications are as follows:
1. Policewoman
2. Patrolman
3. Detective - Sergeant
4. Lieutenant
5. Captain
6. Positions at Large - Position under
Civil Service to be f i l led by ap-
pointment rather than promotion,
the same being:
(a) Identification Technician.
D. Unclassified Positions are:
(a) Recruit Patrolman
(b) Recruit Policewoman
SECTION 2. No other person employed by the City of Wichita
Falls, may be classified as holding a position
under Civil Service with the Police Department., /\ll prior ordi-
nances inconsistent herewith are repealed.
SECTION 3. The fact that the protection of the public
welfare, and the exercise of the police power
of this city necessitates the classifications herein set out,
creates an emergency, and in order to properly exercise its
police power and to care for such emergency, it is hereby
declared that this ordinance shall be effective from and after
the date of passage thereof.
