Ordinance No. _45-2017__
Ordinance canvassing the returns of the General and Special
Municipal Elections held in the City of Wichita Falls, Texas on
November 7, 2017
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Wichita Falls ha s heretofore called for
a General Election (“the election”) to be held in said City on November 7, 2017, to elect
a Councilor at Large, Councilor District 1, and Councilor District 2; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Wichita Falls also called for a special
election to be held in said City on the same date to fill a vacancy for Councilor District
5; and,
WHEREAS, election officers who held the election have duly made the returns
of the results thereof, and said returns have been duly delivered to the Canvassing
Authority; and,
WHEREAS, it is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at which
this ordinance was passed was open to the public, and public notice of the time, place
and purpose of this meeting was given, all as required by the Texas Government Code;
and
WHEREAS, after canvassing the official returns of the election, it was found to
be duly and legally held in all respects, and that 5,228 voters voted in the election, and
that votes were cast as follows:
COUNCILOR AT LARGE:
Bobby Whiteley received 1,823 votes
Penny Miller received 805 votes
Brendan Bell received 760 votes
Charles Barr received 302 votes
COUNCILOR DISTRICT 1:
Eric West received 907 votes
COUNCILOR DISTRICT 2:
DeAndra M. Chenault received 172 votes
COUNCILOR DISTRICT 5:
Mitesh Desai received 226 votes
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The election was in all respects legally held in accordance with the laws of the
State of Texas and the Charter and the Ordinances of the City of Wichita Falls.
The City Council officially finds, determines and declares the results of the
election to be that:
No candidate for Councilor at Large received a majority of votes. A runoff
election shall be called to elect a Councilor at Large.
Eric West was duly and legally elected Councilor District 1;
DeAndra M. Chenault was duly and legally elected Councilor District 2; and
Mitesh Desai was duly and legally elected Councilor District 5.
