RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA
FALLS, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR
$34,000 IN GRANT FUNDS FROM THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT AGENCY/UNITED STATES FIRE ADMINISTRATION
ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTER GRANT PROGRAM TOWARD THE
CREATION OF A WELLNESS AND FITNESS PROGRAM FOR THE
WICHITA FALLS FIRE DEPARTMENT; FINDING AND DETERMINING
THAT THE MEETING AT WHICH THIS RESOLUTION WAS PASSED
WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW.
WHEREAS, heart disease and other associated diseases contribute to more
firefighter deaths than any other cause, and;
WHEREAS, statistics have shown that an effective wellness and fitness program
helps to reduce firefighter deaths and disabilities because firefighters are more
physically fit and diseases are discovered early, and;
WHEREAS, statistics have also shown that an effective wellness and fitness
program helps to reduce health care costs, and;
WHEREAS, the Wichita Falls Fire Department has no formal health and fitness
monitoring program for its members, and;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager be authorized to apply for grant funding
from the Federal Emergency Management Agency/United States Fire Administration
Assistance to Firefighter Grants Program for the creation of a wellness and fitness
program for the Wichita Falls Fire Department.
SECTION 2. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at
which this resolution was passed was open to the public as required by law.
