Members, staff and guests introduced themselves. He introduced Kendrick Jones, the newest member of the committee. Jones wanted to participate in the Lake Wichita Revitalization project because he is interested in the quality of life for his family and in economic development of the city. II. Approval of Minutes There was no quorum in July, so no official business was conducted and there are no minutes. Penny Miller moved and Ford Swanson seconded a motion that the June meeting minutes be approved. The motion passed. III. 404 Permit Steve Garner said he is very grateful to Davis Powell and his team for all of the work they did in getting the 404 permit. We would not have gotten the permit without them. Davis Powell said a copy of the permit was sent to TPWD to process the grant for the LAKE WICHITA COMMITTEE August 8, 2017 Page 1 Kemp boat ramp. Then we can move forward with the request for qualifications for the sea yvall, boat ramp and veteran's plaza. Steve Gamer said that after the public announcement of the permit, the first real planning meeting with Engineering was held about the project. It is paramount the committee goes into a high fundraising mode. It's now or never. IV. Fundraising The Boardwalk TPWD grant is a matching grant. We need to come up with the matching funds. The boat ramp project will be combined with the Veteran's plaza in terms of location, but they are separate projects. At the planning meeting, we set the projects up as three separate projects. We would like to be able to do all of them at the same time, but realistically that may not happen because of funding. Tom Lang indicated that separate projects are easier for grant proposals. We need to get the TPWD grant reports done. Kathie Forehand-Chaddick is no longer permitted to work on grants because of the conflict of interest with her new job. Tom Lang said we need someone on the committee to take the lead on grants. Kathie Forehand-Chaddick said the information is largely put together and just needs to be updated and the emphasis shifted to fit new grants. Jack Browne volunteered to help. We have sporadic participation in the brick campaign. Sales tend to follow public presentations and social media posts. Tom Lang reported 105 bricks have been sold —this does not include tiles. He has a meeting with KAUZ to discuss a PSA to help sell bricks. Tom Lang noted that a big part of fundraising is one-on-one pitches. He and Steve garner do most of that, but we need more renderings and a prezi presentation for donors. He has meetings with Gary Baker to discuss additional renderings and a meeting with Hoegger Communications about the presentation. Tom Lang suggested we launch the $1 fish campaign again. This easy point of sale project made $1500 last time. Ford Swanson reminded committee members that the raffle is still going on. We need to get those tickets sold. Texoma Gives is coming up on September 7. Tom Lang said that the projects "Fishing for Donations" area will be at Parker Square, between Massage Envy and Fidelity Bank. Larry's Marina is providing a pontoon boat to display. Stand Up Paddleboards continues to give 10% of proceeds to the Lake Wichita project. Ford Swanson will follow up once again on the water bill appeal. The Times Record News will be running the donor recognition again soon. In addition, plaques for realtors need to be ordered. V. Other Discussion The Committee plans a Lake Wichita project party for the city in Lake Wichita Park on September 4, with music and food. The city's stage isn't available that day due to the LAKE WICHITA COMMITTEE August 8, 2017 Page 2 holiday, so another company is willing to set up a stage for the nonprofit rate of $640. Jack Browne moved that we contract with this company for the stage. Jesse Brown seconded the motion. The motion passed. Jack Murphy stated this is the first of its kind city project, with the proceeds going to the city's Lake Wichita fund. Ford Swanson stated will need people to help at the event. Bob Seabury, a local builder, has donated a fish sculpture to the project in memory of his first wife. The cost to move the sculpture is $3800. Mr. Seabury will cover the cost of installation. We just need a location. Tom Lang suggested a temporary installation with a final location at the end of the trail on the jetty. A local artist is interested in doing art work for the spillway. Tom Lang mentioned we may want to consider art as part of the overall lake project. Currently, there is a "graffiti" heron on the spillway. Davis Powell said he would need to check on the approval process for anything done on the spillway. Alex Nelson is now officially a City of Wichita Falls intern. She will take on staffing trade show booths as well as other Lake Wichita projects. Davis Powell stated that Jack Murphy needed to be recognized for his work as the committee's staff liaison. He will be retiring August 31. Best wishes, Jack! VI. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 10:25 a.m. ,j6 -/,/) -,; "T? Date LAKE WICHITA COMMITTEE August 8, 2017 Page 3
