RESOLUTION NO. _109-2011__
Resolution Supporting The City Of Wichita Falls’ Participation In A
Joint Land Use Study For Sheppard Air Force Base And Surrounding
Communities
WHEREAS, the City of Wichita Falls (City) recognizes the continued operation
of Sheppard Air Force Base (SAFB) is important to the economy of this region and to
our national defense and its future operational capacity should be protected; and
WHEREAS, the City of Wichita Falls supports the development of a Joint Land
Use Study (JLUS) with SAFB, including the United States Air Force auxiliary airfield in
Frederick, Oklahoma, to protect future operational capabilities; and
WHEREAS, the City of Wichita Falls, Texas, recognizes that participation in and
development of a JLUS will benefit the health, safety and general welfare of the
residents of Wichita Falls and surrounding areas.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
1. The City Council will support and participate in the development of a JLUS
for SAFB and its auxiliary airfield.
2. The City of Wichita Falls will be the sponsoring entity for the JLUS.
3. The City will fund its share of the 10% local match for the Office of Economic
Adjustment grant using funding and/or in-kind staff time and services.
4. The City will appoint Council member(s) as representative(s) to the JLUS
Policy Committee.
5. The City commits to a good faith effort to implement the recommendations of
the JLUS as recommended by the Policy Committee.
