Resolution authorizing the City Manager to apply for a Defense
Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant for the Sheppard Air
Force Base (SAFB) Main Gate Upgrade Project
WHEREAS, the City of Wichita Falls finds it is in the public’s best interest to
provide for improved security, ensuring compliance with critical federal UFC
guidelines for anti-terrorism/force protection, resulting in the need to redesign and
upgrade the entry control facility/main gate entrance at Sheppard Air Force Base
(SAFB) to better protect the military mission; and,
WHEREAS, applying for Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant
(DEAAG) funds and coordinating the process between Sheppard AFB and the
Sheppard Military Affairs Committee (SMAC) will enable and assist in facilitating the
Sheppard AFB Main Gate Upgrade Project, and,
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to authorize the City Manager to submit
an application to obtain funds from the Texas Military Preparedness Commission
(TMPC), out of the Governor’s Office.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute all necessary documents
for the City in order to apply for the 2017 Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance
Grant, through the Governor’s Office – TMPC, for funds up to $5 million related to
the Sheppard AFB Main Gate Upgrade Project for the safety and security of both the
Sheppard Air Force Base installation and the general public as a whole.
