Ordinance amending Chapter 50 of the Code of Ordinances of the City
of Wichita Falls at Article III by the addition of Section 50 -63 to require
annual fire inspections of commercial businesses
WHEREAS, a fire prevention program is the most effective method of keeping a
community safe from fires; and,
WHEREAS, through the International Fire Code, the City Council has determined
it can provide the public a reasonable expectation of fire safety in all commercial
buildings; and;
WHEREAS, an annual fire safety inspection is one of the lowest-cost resources
available to protect the property, health and lives of employees and those who visit
commercial businesses within the City of Wichita Falls.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
Chapter 50 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Wichita Falls is hereby
amended at Article III by the addition of Section 50 -63, which shall hereafter read as
follows:
“Sec. 50-63 Annual fire inspection.
All commercial businesses inside the city limits of Wichita Falls shall be required
to have an annual fire inspection performed on their premises. “Commercial business” is
defined as a business that provides a service or sells physical p roducts, and includes
industrial, retail or commercial office.
