RESOLUTION NO. 42-2008
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR $760,000
IN GRANT FUNDS FROM THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
AGENCY/UNITED STATES FIRE ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANCE TO
FIREFIGHTER GRANT PROGRAM TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF AN
AERIAL PLATFORM APPARATUS FOR THE WICHITA FALLS FIRE
DEPARTMENT; FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT
WHICH THIS RESOLUTION WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS
REQUIRED BY LAW.
WHEREAS, the current aerial platform is twenty-three years old and has in excess of
100,000 miles, and;
WHEREAS, the aerial platform is experiencing significant maintenance issues, does not
have a fully enclosed cab, and does not have adequate storage capabilities, and;
WHEREAS, because of the size of Wichita Falls, the department must have two
dependable aerial apparatus in service at all times, and;
WHEREAS, the Wichita Falls Fire Department is part of an eleven-county regional
mutual aid agreement, and subject to response anywhere in the region, and;
WHEREAS, with the purchase of a aerial platform apparatus, the Wichita Falls Fire
Department will have the ability to more efficiently respond to incidents in the City of Wichita
Falls as well as in the region, and;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager be authorized to apply for grant funding from the
Federal Emergency Management Agency/United States Fire Administration Assistance to
Firefighter Grants Program for the purchase of an Aerial Platform Apparatus for the Wichita
Falls Fire Department.
SECTION 2. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at which this
resolution was passed was open to the public as required by law.
