Resolution approving a modified agreement under the meet and
confer process to alter the hiring process for the Wichita Falls Fire
Department
WHEREAS, the Wichita Falls Fire Department wishes to fill Fire Department
vacancies with quality applicants in the most expeditious manner possible; and,
WHEREAS, under the State Civil Service Statute, applicants must be offered
positions in the order of the eligibility list; and,
WHEREAS, for fire fighter safety, the Fire Fighters’ Associ ation wishes to have
vacancies filled as quickly as possible; and,
WHEREAS, a Meet and Confer Agreement between the City and the Fire Fighters’
Association allows applicants who already possess a Fire Fighter certification to have a
hire date that precedes those who do not already possess a Fire Fighter certification.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
1. The City Council of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas, approves the attached
Meet and Confer Agreement between the City and the Fire Fighters’ Association.
2. The modified agreement will go into effect immediately and applies to the
current eligibility list established as a result of an entrance examination given on
December 10, 2016.
3. The agreement will continue in effect unless and until either party takes
affirmative action to terminate same as specified in the agreement.
