Resolution approving an agreement under the Meet and Confer
Process to extend the time limit for which eligibility lists for beginning
positions are maintained - not to exceed eighteen (18) months
WHEREAS, there are significant costs associated with recruiting, testing and hiring
recruits for the Wichita Falls Fire Department, and the time involved in the process often
shortens the time a recruit remains on the eligibility list for beginning positions; and,
WHEREAS, Fire Administration submitted a proposal to the Fire Fighters’
Association to extend the term of eligibility lists for beginning positions from 12 months to
a term not to exceed 18 months; and,
WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Fire Fighters’ Association met on November
29, 2016, and agreed under Meet and Confer to extend the term of eligibility lists for
beginning positions to a term not to exceed 18 months.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
1. The attached Meet and Confer Agreement to modify Section 143.025(h) of the
City of Wichita Falls’ Firefighters and Police Officers’ Civil Service Rules extending the
term of eligibility lists for beginning positions to a term not to exceed 18 months is hereby
approved.
2. The new agreement will go into effect immediately. The next eligibility list
created and all subsequent eligibility lists will be maintained for eighteen (18) months
unless this agreement is canceled at the request of either party in accordance with the
terms outlined therein.
