RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA
FALLS, TEXAS, A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF LOCATING THE
FUTUREGEN PROJECT IN WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS; FINDING AND
DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT WHICH THIS RESOLUTION
WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW.
WHEREAS, The U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) in partnership with an
international industrial alliance (the Alliance) of companies representing the coal and
power industries will lead development of the FutureGen project with the results being
shared among all participants, industries, and the world, and;
WHEREAS, FutureGen will be to located at a host site that will enable the DOE
and the Alliance to achieve several objectives, including a plant that produces electricity
and hydrogen with near -zero emissions, and;
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Governor Rick Perry and the direction of
Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael L. Williams, the FutureGen Texas (FGT) Team
will demonstrate that Texas is uniquely qualified for the siting, construction and
operation of the FutureGen project, and;
WHEREAS, The North Texas Council of Governments (NORTEX) has been
charged with the responsibility of selecting the most competitive site in their eleven
county region and to submit that site to the Texas Bureau of Economic Geology (BEG)
for consideration as the single Texas site, and;
WHERAS, The BEG has been charged with coordinating Texas' site selection
process and the state's submission of the single most competitive site from among all
those submitted for consideration to the upcoming Department of Energy Request for
Proposals process.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1 . The Wichita Falls City Council enthusiastically supports the
construction of FutureGen in Wichita Falls, Texas, and believes the power plant's
operation will be an economic and research asset to the region, state, and nation.
SECTION 2 . It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at
which this resolution was passed was open to the public as required by law.
