Resolution Authorizing The City Manager To Apply For Federal
Government Funds Under The COPS Hiring Recovery Program
(CHRP) To Hire Four New Police Officers For Community Policing
Purposes
WHEREAS, the City has been notified that it is eligible to apply to the COPS
Hiring Recovery Program Grant for 100% funding for approved entry-level salaries and
fringe benefits of full-time officers for 36 months; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to authorize the City Manager to submit a
grant application to request the hiring of four police officers for community policing
purposes; and
WHEREAS, the City agrees to pay any additional costs for higher than entry-
level salaries and fringe benefits for the hired police officers; and
WHEREAS, the City agrees to retain the hired police officers for a minimum of 12
months following the 36-month grant period; and
WHEREAS, CHRP grant funds will not be used to replace local funds that the
city otherwise would have devoted to hiring new officers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute all documents necessary to
apply for funds under the COPS Hiring Recovery Program and make such other
agreements as are described in this resolution.
