Memorial Auditorium Building
June 22, 1949
The Board of Aldermen of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas, met in called
session on the above date at 10-30 o'clock P. M., in the Council Room in the
Memorial Auditorium Building, with the following members present:
Harold Jones Mayor
L. R. Abbott
Lloyd C. Thomas
Roy W. Parish Aldermen
J. R. Ray
Berry Brown
B. C. Hunter
Geo, T. Henderson City Clerk
Frank Wood City Manager
Guy H. McNeely City Attorney
j Mayor Harold Jones stated the purpose of this meeting to be consideration
of matters of importance to the City.
Next in order of business was the canvassing of a straw vote taken among
the personnel of the Police Department, which revealed the following results:
For Chief of Police:
W. F. Booher 1 vote
C. C. Daniel 3 votes
A. M. Davenport 2 votes
E. H. Deaton 1 vote
Sidney J. (Baker)
Lawrence 38 votes
R. A. Nelson 5 votes
C. E. Wilson 1 vote
Total 51 votes
Mayor Harold Jones appointed Sidney J. (Baker) Lawrence as Chief of
Police of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas.
Moved by Alderman Brown that the matter of appointing the Chief of
Police be deferred indefinitely.
The motion died for want of a second.
Moved by Alder=aan Hunter that the Board of Aldeixmen approve and confirm
the appointment by Mayor Harold Jones of S. J. (Baker) Lawrence as Chief of
Police of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas.
Motion seconded by Alderman Thomas.
After much discussion on the abbove motion, the following motion was had,
and no vote was taken on the preceeding motion before the Council.
Moved by Alderman Ray that the meeting be adjourned.
Motion seconded by Alderman Brown and carried.
The Board of Aldermen then adjourned.
