Min 04/28/1949 634 Wichita Falls, Texas Memorial Auditorium Building April 28, 1949 The Board of Aldermen of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas, met in called session on the above date at 3:15 o'clock P.M. in the Council Room of the Memorial Auditorium Building, with the following members present: Harold Jones Mayor L.R. Abbott Lloyd C. Thomas Roy W. Parish Aldermen J. R. Ray John C. Coffey B. C. Hunter Frank Wood City Manager Guy H, McNeely City Attorney Geo. T. Henderson City Clerk Mayor Harold Jones stated this meeting had been called for the purpose of considering the transfer of the franchise of the Wichita Transit Company to J. S. Perusse. - - - - - - - - - - ORDINANCE NO. 1490 AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE TRANSFER TO J. S. PERUSSE OF THE FRANCHISE ORIGINALLY GRANTED TO WICHITA TRANSIT CORPORATION AND ITS LAWFUL SUCCESSORS, BY THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS ON APRIL 20, 1942, BY ORDINANCE NO. 1337, WHICH SAID ORANCHISE WAS ACCEPTED BY SAID WICHITA TRANSIT CORPORATION ON APRIL 25., 1942., AND THEREAFTER UNDER THE APPROVAL OF ORDINANCE NO. 1396 TRANSFERRED TO LONE STAR COACHES., INC., AND THEREAFTER UNDER APPROVAL OF ORDINANCE NO. 1430 TRXNSFERRED TO THE WICHITA TRANSIT COMPANY, AND FURTHER PROVIDING THAT THE SAID J. S. PERUSSE SHALL MAINTAIN AN OFFICE IN THE CORPORATE LIKITS OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, AND MAINTAIN AND KEEP THE BUSSES OPERATED UNDER SAID FRANCHISE WITHIN THE SAID CITY AND PAY AD VALOR141 TAXES THEREON AND OPERATE BUSSES NOW OPERATED BY SAID WICHITA TRANSIT COMPANY, AND PAY, OR CAUSED TO BE PAID., TO THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS THE STREET RENTAL OF TWO PER CENT OF ANNUAL GROSS PASSENGER RECEIPTS, AS PROVIDED IN ORDINANCE NO. 1337, ORDINANCE NO. 1396,, AND ORDINANCE NO. 1430; APPROVING AND GIVING SAID J. S. PERUSSE THE RIGHT TO ASSIGN OR TRANSFER SAID FRANCHISE TID A CORPORATION TO BE ORGANIZED BY HIM; PROVIDING FOR THE ACQUISITION OF 15 MODERN TRANSIT TYPE BUSSES WITHIN 60 DAYS., AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. Moved by Alderman Parish that Ordinance No. 1490 be approved and passed as read on its first reading. Motion seconded by Alderman Abbott and carried by the following vote: Yeas: Aldermen Abbott, Thomas, Parish, Ray, Coffey and Hunter, Nays: None. - - - - - - - - - - Moved by Alderman Hunter that the rule requiring that Ordinances be read on three separate days be and is hereby suspended and declaring an emergency. Motion seconded by Alderman Ray and carried by the following vote: Yeas: Aldermen Abbott.. Thomas, Parish, Ray,, Coffey and Hunter. Nays: None. - - - - - - - - - - 635 Moved by Alderman Abbott that Ordinance No. 1490 be approved and passed as read on its second reading. vote: Motion seconded by Alderman Parish and carried by the following Yeas: Aldermen Abbott, Thomas, Parish, Ray., Coffey and Hunter. Nays: None. - - - - - - - - - - Moved by Alderman Ray that Ordinance No. 1490 be approved and passed as read on its third and final reading, and declaring an emergency. vote: Motion seconded by Alderman Thomas and carried by the following Yeas: Aldermen Abbott., Thomas, Parish, Ray, Coffey and Hunter. Nays: None. - - - - - - - - - - Alderman John C. Coffey tendered his written resignation, which reads as follows: April 28., 1949 The Honorable Mayor and Board of Aldermen, Wichita Falls., Texas Gentlemen: I hereby tender my resignation at once as a member of the Board of Aldermen'.
