Min 05/06/1935 Wichita Falls, Texas Memorial Auditorium Building VIay 6, 1935 The Board of Alder-'on of the City of Wichita Falls met in regular session at 7:30 P.M. on the above date in the Council Chamber in the Memorial Auditorium Building with the following members present: Tohn To Young, Mayor Claude 1iller, J. Be' Stokes, L. C. Rodgers, V. E. Stampfli, Alderman Mack Taylor, Mark Do Walker, A. H. Douglass, City Manager 1. H. Crouch, City Clerk We E. George, City Attorney The Yinutes of the previous meetings were read andapproved. J. Be Marlow had a renewal of his claim against the City for damages to Lots 6 and 21, Block 16, Bateson Addition. Action on this matter was deferred until the next regular council meeting. The Vice President of the Dallas-Wichita Falls Coaches call ad attention of the Board of Aldermen to portion of certain resolution approved April 29 relative to the granting of permit by the Railroad Commission to the North Texas Coach Co. Moved by Alderman Miller that the City Clerk be authorized to address a letter to the Railroad Connission interpreting said resolution to the effect that the Board of Alderman was merely granting permission to City Attoriley We Be George to appear in the capacity of a witness before said Commission in hearing on said application. Motion seconded by Alderman Taylor and carried by the fb1lowing vote: Yeas: Aldermen Miller, Taylor, Stokesq Walker, and Stampfli. Nays: Alderman Rodgers. Moved by Alderman Miller that We Be George, City Attorney, and Be Do Sartin appear for the City of Wichita Falls, Texas, in the case of We A* Simonton, at al, vs City of Wichita Fallst Texas, in the United States District Court at Dallas, Texas, may 7, 1935, and answer for the City and defend said suit on behalf of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas, and take with them To He Crouch, City Clark, and P. He Lambert, Auditor of Wichita Falls, Texas, as witnesses, and that they be allowed their necessary traveling and hotel expenses incurred in making the trip to Dallas, Texas, and return to Wichita Falls, Texas, Motion seconded by Alderman Taylor and carried. 4106 Moved by Alderman Rodgers that the Board of Aldernan continue the appointment i of J. B. Stokes as Acting City Manager from May 1 to 6:00 P.M. May 6, 1935, and confirm all action taken by him as Acting City Manager during this period* Motion seconded by Alderman Stampfli and carried. Movsd by Alderman Rodgers that the Board of Alderman approve the applications for Chauffeur's Licenses presented by Marlow Prichard and James Bailey. Motion seconded by Alderman Walker and carried* ORDINANCE NO U98 AN ORDINANCE MAKING ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION OUT OF THE UNAPPROPRIATED BALANCE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FISCAL YEAR FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING APRIL 1, 1935, AND ENDING MARCH 31 193j,,-AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. Moved by Alderman Taylor that Ordinance No, 1198 be passed on its first reading. Motion seconded by Alderman Walker and carried by the following vote: Yeas: Aldermen Taylor, Walker, Stampfli, Stokes, Rodgers, and Miller, Nays: None. Moved by Alderman Rodgers that the rule requiring ordinances to be read on three separate days be suspended and an emergency declared, and Ordinance No, 1198 be passed on its second reading* Motion seconded by Alderman Stampfli and carried by the following vote: Yeas: Aldermen Rodgers, Stampfli, Stokes, Miller, Walker, and Taylor. Nays: None, Moved by Aldermen Taylor that the Board of Alderman appoint and elect Mack Thomas as Temporary City Manager for the City of Wichita Falls, Motion seconded by Aldermen Rodgers-and carried by the following vote: Yeas: Aldermen Taylor, Rodgers, Stokes, and Miller. Nays: Aldermen Walker, Stempfli, and Mayor Young, Moved by Alderman Rodgers that the Board of Alderman recommend the appoint- ment of Dre A. H.
