Young, Mayor Raymond M. Myers, � Leon L. Deaton, Z George D. Fax, X Aldermen Mark D. Walker, Mack Taylor, W. E. McBroom, City Clerk Thelbert Martin, City Attorney The returns of the special city election held on July 27 were canvassed and tabulated. I'.loved by Alderman Talker that the following resolution be adopted. The motion was seconded by Alderman Taylor and carried by the following vote: Yeas: Aldermen 'Talker, Taylor, Myers, Deaton, and Fox , and May or Young. Nays: None, RESOLUTION WHEREAS; at a regular call meeting of the Board of Aldermen of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas, held at the regular meeting place in the Memorial Auditorium Building in said city, on the 28th day of July, A.D. 193 4, at wh ich a quorum was pre sent , e am a on to be considered the returns of the special city election held on July 27 , 1934, for the purpose of amending Section 10 of the Charter of the City aP Wichita Falls to provide for a sixth alderman; and, V7HEREAS, after canvassing the returns of said election, it was found that it was duly and legally held in all respects and that there were cast at said election 6,451 votes, and that the vote was as follows, to-wit : For the amendment 5,734 Against the amendment 497 And it appearing that a majority of all the votes cast at said election were cast for the adoption of said amendment. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMMTT OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS: i That said amendment of Section. 10 of the City Charter of I the Gity of lichita Falls has been duly and legally adopted as a I part cf said Charter at said election and that said election was in ! all respects legally held in accordance with the laws of the State I of '.i'exas and the Charter and Ordinances of said city. i (; PASSED AND APPM VED this 28th day of July, A.D. 1934, f i I i 611 adopted. E. Stampfli received 3,448 votes J. H. Allison received 29956 votes And it appearing that said V. E. Stampfli received the greatest number of votes cast in said. election for Alderman, Position No. 6. I THEREFORE, BEIT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF A TDMTrZT OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS: That V. E. Stampfli was duly and legally elected Alderman of the City of Wichita Falls at said election; and that said election was in all respects legally held in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter and Ordinances of the said city. PASSED AND APPROVED this 28th day of July, A.D. 1934 . The oath of office was administered to Alderman Elect V. E. ST.CeFLI by the Mayor and he took the seat at the council table. Young, Mayor City of Wichita Falls Wichita Falls, Texas Dear Mr. Young .- The results of the election of yesterday, July 27 , were in favor of the views expressed by Messrs. Mack Taylor, Mark `Talker and yourself, as well as your candidate, Vic Stampfli. Therefore , I hereby terrier my resignation as a member of the City Council of Wichita Falls, effective at once. The motion was seconded by Alderman Taylor and carried by the following vote: Yeas : Aldermen ;Talker, Taylor, Stampfli, and Mayor Young. Nays: None, Pvlayor: The following resignation of Gecsrge D. Fox was read by the Hon. John T. Young, Mayor Honorable Board of Aldermen Wichita Falls, Texas Gent leme n: Please accept my resignation as a member of the Board of Aldermen cf the City of Wichita Falls, Texas, effective at once. This action is taken by me for the reason that the result of the election on yesterday indicates that the majority of the voting citizens are committed to all the policies announced by Mayor Young; I believe in Democratic rule by the majority, and since the people have spoken as they have done, it seems to me it is proper f or ma to step aside and allow the remaining members of the Council to fill the vacancy thus created by appointing someone who can conscientiously endorse all the policies of Mayor Young, I I i e i In this connection, however, I want to assure you that I have the kindest of feeling toward all of you; that I earnestly hope that the!, policies to be inaugurated by you will result in benefit to our city and its citizens. Please also know that I stand ready at all times to render such assistance as I can toward making our city the best in the land, and toward the happiness and contentment of the splendid people who are its citizens. i Yours very truly, (Signed) G. Smitham was read by the Nay or: Mayor & Board of Aldermen City of Wichita Falls, Texas Gentlemen: Please accept my resignation effective at your convenience. Yours very truly, (Signed) V. R. Smitham Moved by Alderman Walker that the resignation of V. R. Smitham as City Manager effective at once with pay to August 1, 1934, be accepted. Douglass be appointed as temporary City Manager .
