1. Request for angle parking 1200 Block Lamar.
Motion made by San B. Spence and seconded by Maurice McCall to deny

to City Council to recommend to Texas Highway Department that this
section of highway in question be constructed as in detailed drawing

6. Recommendations for control of parking on A-venue H between Seymour Road
and Hayes Street to reduce pedestrian injuries.
Notion made by Sam B. Spence and seconded by Martin Nelson to have
parallel parking enforced on these streets. Cqrried unanimously.
7. Request that parking meters be installed in the 1100 Block Eighth Street.
Motion made by Maurice McCall and seconded by Martin Nelson to defer
request since the parties making the request had not appeared before
the cormission.
8. Request that parking meters be installed in the 800 Block of Brook Street,
Same as Item 7.
9. Request for permission to indent curb for angle parking at 600 Block of
Ohio.
Motion made by Martin Nelson and seconded by Sam B. Spence to deny
request. Carried unanimously.
10. Request for an additional 22 feet to be added to the Bus Zone on the west
side of the 800 Block of Indiana.
Motion made by Martin Nelson and seconded by Maurice McCall to defer
request pending the appearance of a representative of the bus company*
11. Request by Alfred H. Freeman for a reserved parking place at the curb
in the 1000 Block of Travis Street.

12. Request by Ehlert Furniture Company for permission to park their
truck in the"Loading Zone" at 718 Seventh Street.
Motion made by Sam B. Spence and seconded by Martin Nelson to deny

NDI BUSINESS
1. A recommendation was made by Earl C. Williams, Jr. that angle parking be
removed from the 600 Block of Indiana due to the large number of accidents
in the past two years.
A request was made by G. H. Kirby that Mr. Williams have this
recommendation publicized in order that the public can appear at the next
meeting to discuss this change.
2. Motion was made by Sam B. Spence and seconded by Maurice McCall to
recommend to council to remove parking at curb on U.S. 277 & 82 between
Broad and Van Buren Streets.
The next meeting of the Traffic Commission will be held on the 12th of
July, 1956 at 2:30 P-m- in the City Council Room in the Municipal Auditorium.
There being no further business, meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
A SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT FROM THE CITY TRAFFIC
COI141SSION TO THE WICBITA FALLS CITY COUNCIL
The City Traffic Commission desires that the City Council be furnished
information supporting the Commission's recommendation that a request for angle
parking on the west side of the 1200 Block of Lamar be denied.
In accordance with a policy established by the Commission, the recommendation
is based upon traffic safety and street capacity. Factual data was supplied by
Mr. Buford Rice and the City Traffic Engineer. The Commission has disclosed its
intention to call on any or all city employees concerned for factual information
to support all recommendations to the Council.
The normal street width in the 1200 Block of Lamar is 50 feet. At the
location in question a recess approximately 7 feet wide extending nearly one
half block has been made in previous years. Thus, the total street space from
center line to curb is 32 feet.
The usual width required for L5 degree angle parking and maneuvering is
29 feet. If angle parking is permitted, each maneuver will leave only 3 feet
driving space. If parallel parking is required, the required parking and
maneuvering space is 19 feet. This leaves 13 feet driving space clear at all
times.
The traffic volume per day has materially increased in the last few years on
Lamar. A count taken in the 1200 Block in May 1956 totaled 5886 vehicles in 2h
hours. Volumes as high as 7600 vehicles per day have been counted in this block.
These volumes indicate that the average gap in time between vehicles on one
side of the street during the peak hour is -- from 10 to 12 seconds. This is
not enough time for a maneuver that requires practically one half the street
width.
Police records show a history of 7 vehicle accidents in the 1200 Block of
Lamar during a two-year period. Although only one accident occurred during an
