The Board of Aldermen of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas, met in called session
on the above date in the Council Room of the Memorial Auditorium Building at 1:45 P.M. ,
with the following members present:
Kenneth Hill Mayor

Wilma J. Thomas City Clerk

The invocation was given by Alderman Darner.
This special meeting was called in the aftermath of the fires and tragedy which
struck Wichita Falls last night.
City Manager Jack Davis explained that under an existing city ordinance demolition
of dangerous buildings was authorized, and he requested authority for the Director of
Public Safety to designate those walls of buildings which need to be condemned and
immediately demolished.
Moved by Alderman Kruger that in the event any parts of buildings need to be
condemned, that it be done so and torn down as soon as possible, and that the Public
Safety Director be given authority to make this decision.
Motion seconded by Alderman Schenk, and carried unanimously.
City Manager Jack Davis also recommended that the City give some assistance to
f the widows of the two policemen who were killed as a result of the wall collapse follow-
ing the fire. It was recommended that the City Council appropriate $10,000; $5,000
to each widow to assist them as they see fit.
ORDINANCE NO. 2443
AN ORDINANCE MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FROM THE UNAPPROPRIATED GENERAL FUND TO
ACCOUNT" NUMBLR 010-4615, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
Moved by Alderman Schenk that Ordinance No. 2443 be passed appropriating $10,000;
�5,000 each for widows of deceased policemen.
Motion seconded by Alderman Davis, and carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Aldermen Taylor, Davis, Darner, Kruger, and Schenk
Nays: None
The mayor and various members of the Council expressed sympathy and regret to
the families of these young men who died heroes in the line of duty. Alderman Schenk
remarked that this points out dangers that the policemen face each day.
City Manager Jack Davis stated that from all reports all members of the Fire and
Police Departments were exemplary in their duties.
Mayor Hill expressed appreciation to both Fire and Police Departments, and also
the assistance given by Fire Departments from Sheppard Air Force Base, Iowa Park, and
Ienrietta.

City Manager Jack Davis also requested general authority to assist in any related
j expenses, stating that it would have to be appropriated at a later date.

Moved by Alderman Taylor that authority be granted to assist as requested.
Motion seconded by Alderman Darner, and carried unanimously.
Gloved by Alderman Kruger that the meeting; be adjourned.
Motion seconded by Alderman Schenk, and carried unanimously.
