Min 04/09/1979 158 Wichita Falls, Texas Memorial Auditorium Building April 9, 1979 Item 1 The Board of Aldermen of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas, met in called session on the above date in the Council Room of the Memorial Auditorium Building at 8:00 o'clock P.M. , with the following members present. Kenneth Hill Mayor Hardy McAlister Fred E. Bassett Curtis Smith Aldermen Jim Thomas Raymond Adcock Gerald Fox City Manager H. P. Hodge, Jr. City Attorney Gerald Carlson Chief Accounting Officer Wilma J. Thomas City Clerk Carol Russell Absent There was a moment of silent prayer for Columbus Campell , a city employee who died on March 26. Alderman Thomas gave the invocation. Item 3 V The results of the election held on April 7, 1979, were canvassed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. /RESOLUTION NO. 2325 RESOLUTION CANVASSING RETURNS OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS , TEXAS, ON APRIL 7, 1979. WHEREAS, at a regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen of the City of Wichita Falls , Texas , held in the Memorial Auditorium Building on the 9th day of April , 1979, at which time a quorum was present, came on to be considered the returns of the municipal election held on the 7th day of April , 1979. WHEREAS, after canvassing the returns of said election, it was found to be duly and legally held in all respects, and that 4670 voters voted in said election; and that FOR ALDERMAN, POSITION NO. 1 : Bill McMullen received 291 votes Wm. S. Myers received 1286 votes Marvin Traywick received 1619 votes Tommy Robinson received 1133 votes Ebb Jones received 268 votes Write-in votes 5 FOR ALDERMAN, POSITION NO. 2: David E. Brock received 1597 votes John W. Hampton, Jr. received 2890 votes Write-in votes 10 FOR ALDERMAN, POSITION NO. 3: Carol G. Russell received 3317 votes Billy Lee Rose received 1180 votes Write-in votes 9 PROPOSITION NO. 1 : Yes 3970 No 536 PROPOSITION NO. 2: Yes 3130 No 1353 159 Item 3, cont'd. PROPOSITION NO. 3: Yes 3443 No 982 PROPOSITION NO. 4: Yes 3782 No 618 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT: Said election was in all respects legally held in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas and the charter and ordinances of the City of Wichita Falls; that Marvin Traywick was duly and legally elected Alderman, Position No. 1 ; John W. Hampton, Jr. was duly and legally elected Alderman, Position No. 2; Carol G. Russell was duly and legally elected Alderman, Position No. 3; that Proposition No. 1 was adopted; that Proposition No. 2 was adopted; that Proposition No. 3 was adopted; that Proposition No. 4 was adopted. Moved by Alderman Thomas that Resolution No. 2325 be passed. Motion seconded by Alderman Adcock, and carried by the following vote. Ayes : Mayor Hill , Aldermen McAlister, Bassett, Smith, Thomas , and Adcock Nays: None Moved by Alderman Adcock that minutes of the meeting held April 3, 1979, be approved. Motion seconded by Alderman Thomas , and carried unanimously. Mayor Hill commended Aldermen McAlister and Bassett for their service to the City of Wichita Falls. Alderman McAlister stated that he had thoroughly enjoyed the last four years, and if given the opportunity he would gladly serve again. Alderman Bassett stated that he had had an extraordinary experience the past two years. He would like to see some editorials in the paper portraying city government. He commended Police Chief Curtis Harrelson and City Manager Gerald Fox for their abilities and performance. He would like to see the goals of our City examined and better defined by the Board of Aldermen and BCI. Aldermen Adcock and Smith commented that they would miss these two men, but also welcomed the new members. Item 3 Marvin Traywick and John W. Hampton, Jr. were administered the Oath of Office by City Clerk Wilma Thomas. They each commented that they are looking forward to serving and learning. The Board of Aldermen adjourned at 8:50 P.M.
