ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA
FALLS, TEXAS, ORDERING A CERTIFICATION ELECTION UNDER
CHAPTER 142 OF THE TEXAS LOCAL GOVERNMENT CODE;
FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT WHICH THIS
ORDINANCE WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS
REQUIRED BY LAW.
WHEREAS, on September 20, 2005, the City Council received a petition from
Local 432 of the International Association of Fire Fighters, requesting recognition as the
sole and exclusive bargaining agent for the covered fire fighters; and,
WHEREAS, state law authorizes the governing body to order a certification
election to determine whether the Association represents a majority of the covered fire
fighters.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1 . A certification election, in accordance with the provisions of Chapter
142 of the TEXAS LOCAL GOVERNMENT CODE, is hereby ordered to determine if Local 432
of the International Association of Fire Fighters represents a majority of the covered fire
fighters.
SECTION 2 . It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at
which this ordinance was passed was open to the public as required by law.
