Ord 096-2005 12/6/2005ORDINANCE NO. " ( C J ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, AMENDING SECTION 50 -34 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, IDENTIFYING THE CLASSIFICATIONS AND NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION FOR THE WICHITA FALLS FIRE DEPARTMENT; FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT WHICH THIS ORDINANCE WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW. WHEREAS, Section 143.021(a) of the TEXAS LOCAL GOVERNMENT CODE requires that the governing body of a city must establish by ordinance the classifications and the number of positions in each classification in the fire department; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council to establish the classification of Firefighter Trainee; and, WHEREAS, the number of Firefighter Trainee positions will be dependent upon the staffing needs of the Fire Department; and, WHEREAS, the staff recommends adopting an ordinance to reflect these changes in the classified fire positions; and, WHEREAS, the City Council has considered the matter and deems it in the public interest to authorize this action. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1 . The City Council establishes the following classifications and the number of positions for civil service positions in the fire department. Section 50 -34 of the Wichita Falls Code of Ordinances is hereby amended to read as follows: "Sec. 50 -34. Civil service positions designated. (a) The following positions in the fire department are classified under civil service in compliance with V.T.C.A., LOCAL GOVERNMENT CODE §143.021: Classification Titl Firefighter Trainee Number of Positions As Required Firefighter 89 Fire Equipment Operator 39 Fire Lieuten 24 Fire Captain 14 Fire Battalion Chief 3 Assistant Fire Chief 1 (b) No other person employed by the city may be classified as holding a position under civil service." SECTION 2 . It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at which this ordinance was passed was open to the public as required by law.
