Resolution Authorizing The City Manager To Transfer Ownership Of
A WSR-74C Radar Unit Located At Wichita Falls Municipal Airport To
The National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration Severe
Storms Laboratory in Norman, Oklahoma
WHEREAS, the City of Wichita Falls received ownership of a WSR-74C radar
when the National Weather Service closed its offices, and this radar is effectively fully
depreciated and has not been used for 10 years;
WHEREAS, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
National Severe Storm Laboratory can provide value to citizens by using the WSR-74C
radar to provide support for other radars and advance NOAA's knowledge of severe
weather; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the municipal public purposes of
maintaining a good working relationship with NOAA, advancing NOAA's knowledge of
severe weather, and reducing storage costs will be served by transferring ownership of
the WSR-74C radar to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Severe
Storm Laboratory.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The City Manager is authorized to transfer the ownership of the WSR-74C radar
unit located at Wichita Falls Municipal Airport to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration's National Severe Storm Laboratory in Norman, Oklahoma.
