Ah_QRDINANCE.-LPROVIDING FOR A TAX pN DUGS AhD FOR A PENalty FOR
FAILURE TO PAY TAX THEREON AND PROVIDING FOR THE METHOD OF THE
60LLECTION OF SAID TAX AND PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD 6F ALDERMAN OF THE CITE' 0-7 ViICHTT_A FALLS:
SECTION 1. That there is hereby levied and assessed. upon
a'ch dog, male and female, kept or owned. within this city, an
annual tav of Two Doilrirs ($2.00) on each male dog and Three
Dollars ($3.00) on each female dog, which tax is to be dui; and
payable on the- fir W day of Jkn�zu.ry o:l each year and it is here-
by made the duty of the owner or keeper of any dog male or fem �l.e
to pay over to the Chief of Police or his duly authorized agent
the said t �\or before the first or, nf 9aauApy Of each year.
SECTION 2. The Chief' of Police shall collect or have eol-
l'ectdd -u,nd_er his supervision all dog taxes, and he may employ a
special officer, to be known and designated as the Dog Catcher
whose duty it shall be to carry out the terms and provisions of
this ordinance and. the Chief of Police shall be authorized to
pay Into the Dog Catcher a commission of4 all dog taxes collected
10t to exceed per cent. The Chief of Police shall
be responsible to the City of Wichita. FIal.l a for all money or
moneys collected under this ordinance and shall make monthly re-
ports in writing of all money or moneys ,collected under t:nf,�s or-
d ina.nee, �t.�Cl the Board of Alderman and shall pay over hnto the
treasui+.of the City a1.1. money or moneys so collected under this
ordinance at least once a month.
SECTION 3. Upon the payment of said tax the Chief of Policd
or his duly authorized agent shall furnish the owner l
said dog or dogs with a tag on which is stumped the number of
registration with the year f$0, which tax is paid , which tag the
owner or keeper shall attach to a collar s cur*ly fastened aroungi
the neck of such dog male or female, and while the tag is attached
fifty cents (50¢) for every twelve hours or fractional part
thereof during which time said dog or doge , male or Tamale,
may have been impounded, for every such dog, male or female,
so impounded, which sum so paid to him shall by the Chief of
to
Police be paid over/the City tre66DI,y for the use and benefit
of the city as well as all other moneys received by him under
the terms of this ordinance. A sum of One Dollar 41.00 ) &hall
in addition thereto be paid to the Chief of Police or his duly
authorized agent to recapture and impound said dog or dogs
provided lnwtver that the city shall in no case be held re-
sponsible for any part of the fee or any commission mentioned
herein to be paid to the Chief of Police or his duly authorized

(b) j4hould the owner or keeper of said dog or dogs , male
or female fa,il. to redeem the same as provided for in Paragraph
�.�
(a) of this Section within the forty eight hours then said dog
or dogs, male or female, shall be advertised and sold or killed
in the manner provided for in this ordinance. It shall be the
duty of the Chief of Police and the duly authorized Dog Catcher
to see that the terms of this ordinance are strictly enforced
provided, however, that the terms of this ordinance shall not
be applicable to Bogs following countrymen into the city.
SECTION 6. The Chief of Police and any policeman of this
city shall have the right to shoot or kill any rabid dog or any
dog in the streets which shall manifest a disposition to bite.
SECTION 7. That any person who shall wilfully take from
any dog a collar or tag shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor
and upon conviction shall be fined In any sum not to exceed
Ten Dollars ($10.00)
SECTION 8. That this ordinance shall become effective
an d be in full force from and after its passage and publication.
