That it shall hereafter be unlawfal for any person to engage in
and/or promote any personal, physical and/or men' tal endurance con-
test in public comp
etition within the City of *i"ichit-a -walls for prizes,
a-aards or admission fees, exce--)t this Ordinance shall not apply to any
athletic contests o.' schools , colleges and universities of the State
nor to any trial contests for the purpose of testing the strength and
capacity of materials and machinery of any kind.
SE`13=01-11 2.
That any person violating the provisions of this Ordinance upon
conviction shall be fined in any surn not less than Ten (-;10.001 Dol-
lars nor more than Two Hundred (.y.;200.00) -Dollars and each and every
day shall constitute a separate offense.
SECTION 3.
The fact that contests of the nature prohibited herein are det-
rimental to the public inter st and that certain persons are prepar-
ing at this time to engage in and promote such contests creates an

I have investigated at your request the state law applicable
to endurance contests. "'his law .,ias passed in 1931 and reads as fol-
lows :
"Art. 614a. Endurance contests limited to twenty four hours.
Sec . 1. All personal, physical and mental endurance con-

tests in public competition for prizes, a�,7ards or admission fees shall
not continue longer than twenty-four (24) hours in any one continuous
competitive period of endurance. All contestants having engaged in any
encl_urance contest continuously for a period of twenty-four (24) hours
-shall be required to cease from such contest for a period of twent•;J-
four (24 ) hours before commencing the same or any other period of per-
sonal, physical and mental endurance in _public competition for prizes
or awards or admission fees.
Sec. 2. Each prornotor of any personal, physical, ment?.l
endurance contests in public competition for prizes, awards- o-_- ad .is-
sion f es ;rho sliall violate any provision of this Pict or any person
,rho s-iall enter such contest shall be fined not less than One Hundred
(Q'100.00) Dollars nor more than One Thousand (ti�1,000.00) Dollars f'or
each -ffence, or confined in the County Jail not less ' han thirty (30)
days nor more than ninety (90 ) days, or by both such fine �.nd imprison-
-::,e nt .
Sec. 3. The provisions of this Act shall not apply to any
athletic contests oi' schools, colleges , and universities of the State
nor to any trial contests for the purpose of testing the strength and
capacity of materials and machinery of any kind. (Acts 1931, 42nd
Leg. , p. 337 , Oh. 204. )
There is no city Ordinance prohibiting such contests.
