Resolution Protecting The Current And Future Operations Of
Sheppard Air Force Base By The Expression Of Opposition To Any
Electric Transmission Line Locations That Might Negatively Impact
Current And Future Ground Missions And Flight Operations
WHEREAS, the Wichita Falls City Council recognizes the importance of
Sheppard Air Force Base to the local economy and the need to protect its environment
for successful current and future operations; and
WHEREAS, the City Council also recognizes the need to improve the electrical
service grid for the region:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
1. The City Council of the City of Wichita Falls strongly opposes any
transmission line proposed for construction by ONCOR Electric Delivery Company LLC
in any location that might negatively impact any current or future missions at Sheppard
Air Force Base. This strong opposition includes construction of the Riley-Krum West
345 kilovolt transmission line adjacent to the north and east sides of Sheppard.
Construction adjacent to Sheppard poses a real potential threat to current and future
ground missions and flight operations at Sheppard. Reduced operations at Sheppard
would not only negatively impact our nation's military, but also the area economy.
Sheppard represents approximately 25 percent of the area's economy.
2. ONCOR Electric Delivery Company LLC and the Public Utility Commission of
Texas shall be made aware of such resolution by the City of Wichita Falls.
