ORDINANCE NO. 102 -2001
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA
FALLS, TEXAS, ADOPTING A REDISTRICTING PLAN TO CHANGE
THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL DISTRICT BOUNDARIES; FINDING AND
DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT WHICH THIS ORDINANCE
WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW.
WHEREAS, it is necessary for the City Council of the City of Wichita Falls to
reexamine and readjust the municipal council district boundaries based on the 2000
United States census reports on the population of the City of Wichita Falls, in order to
maintain as nearly as possible an equal population within each municipal council
district.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. Pursuant to the powers conferred upon the City Council of the City
of Wichita Falls by Section 7 of the Home Rule Charter of the City of Wichita Falls, the
City Council does hereby adopt a redistricting plan, as identified by the following
attached exhibits, to change the boundaries of the municipal precincts:
EXHIBIT A Map of adopted municipal council district boundaries
EXHIBIT B Description of boundaries of adopted municipal council districts
The aforementioned Exhibits A and B are expressly incorporated herein by referenced.
SECTION 2. This ordinance and the specific plan of redistricting, as set up
herein, shall not become effective until they have received preclearance by the Attorney
General of the United States of America, as required in Section 5 of the Voting Rights
Act of 1965, as amended in 1982, United States Code Annotated.
SECTION 3. Those portions of Ordinance No. 37 -85, adopted April 9, 1985,
creating five "single member districts" and further providing for a mayor and one
councilor to be elected "at- large," shall remain in effect except to the extent such
ordinance shall be in conflict with the described boundaries of the council districts
specified herein.
SECTION 4. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at
which this ordinance was passed was open to the public as required by law.
