Whereas,, the Board of Aldermen after an investigation of the closing of a portion of Washington Street running between Blocks Forty-Nine and Thirty-Four of the original townsite of Wichita Falls.. and of a portion of the alley running ot , and of , through Block Thirty-Four from the North side of Washing on Street Indiana Avenue., lying adjacent to and East of Blocks Forty-Nixie and Sixty., Original Townsite of Wichita Falls, Texasp and %yiA7 North of the North line of Lincoln Street, deems it for the best interest of all concerned that the portions of the streets men- tionedo and the alleys described, be closed and abandoned., and find that the rights of the public will not be affected adversely. NOW., THEREFOIT,., BE IT 01MADdED BY TN� DO�'aZD UF �,LDERE N OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS., TEXAS: SECTION 2. That that portion of Washington Street and Indiana Avenue., and of the alley to be closed and abandoned is described as f ollows., tO-wit: STREET WASHINQTQN STREET - Beginning at the Northwest corner of Block Yo_i;E_j-Nine,# same being the intersection of Scott Street with Washington Street; Thence in an easterly direction with the North line of Block 49 to the intersection of the West line of the right-of-ray of the Fort Worth & Denver City Railway Com.- paxW right-of-i�,ray; 'Thence in a Northwesterly direction of the West line of said right-of-way to the North line of T.Vashin,:,'ton Street; Thence West with the South line of Block 34 to the South- east corner of Block 34, being a point in the intersection of Washington Street and Scott Avenue; Thence in a Southerly direc- tion with the East boundary line of Scott Street to the place of beginning. INDIAN& AVENUE - beginning at a point which is the Southeast corner of Block 60; Thence in an Easterly direction along the North line of Lincoln Street to the Southwest corner of Block 61; Thence with the West line of Block 61 intersecting Caroline and across Caroline Street with the East boundary line of Indiana Avenue to the intersection of said street with the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway Ccmpany right-of-way; Thence in a North- westerly direction of the West boundary line of said right-of-way to a point where said right-of-way intersects Block /+q; Thence in a Southerly direction with the East boundary line of Block /+9 across Caroline Street., and intersects the Northeast corner of Block 60; Thence in a southerly direction with the east line of block 60 to the place of beginning. ALLEY BEGINNING at the Southeast of Lot 8., Block 31+; Thence East with the North line of Washington Street across the alley; Thence in a Northerly direction with the East line of the alley to the intersection of the Fort Worth & Denver City Railway Company right-of-way; Thence in a Northwesterly direction with the West line of the said right-of-way to a point where the Fort Worth & Demrer City Railway Company crosses a portion of the West 1/2 of Block 34; Thence in a Southerly direction along the East boundary line of the West 1/2 of Block 31+ to the point of beginning. The fact that the State Highway Department has fixed May 15., 1940., as the last day for the City of Wichita Falls to acquire certain properties for high- way purposes on Lincoln Street and the construction of the underpass thereon., and that upon such failure the State and Federal funds may not be avail-able thereafter for the construction of said underpass., and the further fact that it is necessary to close the streets and alleys, above described, in order to acquire said right- of-way., creates an emergency and the rule requiring the reading of ordinances on three several days is hereby suspended and this ordinance is declared an emergency ordinance and shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.
