AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1148, PASSED AND AP-
PROVED ON THE 8TH DAY OF, JANuARy, A.D. 1934.9 ENTITLED "AN ORDI-

BL IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDER MEN OF TEE CITY OF
IATICHITA FALLS, TEXAS:
SECTION 1.
That Ordinance Noo 1148p passed and approved on the 8th
day of 'Tanuary., A.D. 1934, entitled "An Ordinance creating a Board
to be known as The Examining Board of Gas Fitters; prescribing the
membership of said board; ProvidinE for examination of an issuance
Of license to gas fitters; prescribing the work to be done by li-
censed gas fitters; requiring permits and Providing for inspection
fees ; Providing for Inspector and defining Inspector, s duties; pre-
scribing specifications for gas piping and etc., " be and the same
is hereby amended by adding thereto Section 21-A, which shall read
as follows, to-wit :
"Section 21-A: All heating appliances concealed in walls,
floors, attics, and -c-l—osets, and all other gas burning appliances,
shall bear the approval of the American Gas Association.
No floor furnace shall be installed in a building where
the distance from the bottom of the floor to the ground level be-
neath is less than twenty-four ( 24) inches.
Each floor furnace installed that Projects below ground
level shall have a pit under the furnace and no floor furnace shall
be installed when the ground level under the building is lower than
the ground level in the yard, except where bottom of the Pit under
the furnace is above the gutter grade in street or alley and the
Pit is drained by gravity at all times with an approved drain from
the pit to gutter in street or alley. The pit shall be excavated
to depth of 6 inches below bottom of furance and all side walls
shaped to an angle of 450 to Prevent caving of dirt into pit.
Every automatically Or remotely controlled furnace shall
be equipped with an approved device which will automatically cut off
the main gas supply to the furnace within not move than six minutes
after any Pilot burher in such furance is extinguished.
Each floor furnace shall be Properly vented. Vents and
vent stacks for floor furnaces shall be of a material approved by
the National Board Of Fire Underwriters . Vents shall not have a
horizontal run in excess of 75% of the vertical height of the vent
stack. The horizontal vent run must have a minimum rise of one-
fourth inch per foot. No horizontal Or combination of horizon-
tal vents shall have combined lengths in excess Of fifteen ( 15)
feet. Vent stacks shall extend throuch the roof I
CD within three (3)
feet of the I-Iighest point and at least twelve (12) inches above the
high point. Vent stacks shall be equipped with an approved cap.

Tapping of vents to connect vents together will not be
permitted. No canopy over a range shall be connected to the
vent serving a gas fired appliance.
Vents from non-automatic gas appliance shall not be
connected into a flue carrying gases from other fuel sources.
Automatic gas appliances, other than floor furnaces, may be
vented into flue or vent stack carrying gases from other fuel
sources, provided the flue or stack is large enough and the
donnection is made at a point at least twelve ( 12) inches above
the connection from the appliance using other fuel.
Reducing of vent sizes from the vent collar on the
appliance will not be allowed. Where two or more appliances
are vented through one vent stack, the stack shall be increas-
ed in size until the stack area is not less than that of the
largest vent plus 50% of the area of the additional vents.
All vents shall be securely hung with approved pipe
hangers at intervals not exceeding five (5) feet and at the
base of the vertical stack. All changes in direction shall,
where possible, be made with 450 fittings. If cement asbestos
pipe is used all joints shall be well cemented with an approv-
ed cement.
Where roof flashings are used the vent shall extend
above the top of the metal sleeve in the flashing and the vent
cap shall be attached to the vent proper.
All gas fired appliances not specifically covered
by this ordinance shall be installed and vented., when requir-
ed., in a safe manner. The recommendation of the American Gas
Association shall be followed in making such installations
and the inspector of plumbing and gas piping shall be consult-
ed for information concerning such installations prior to the
installation. Such installations shall be made in a manner
satisfactory to the inspector of plumbin8' and gas piping. "
SECTION 2.
Because there is no ordinance regulating the installa-
tion of floor furnaces and other appliances and because such ap-
pliances are being installed in such a way as to create a fire
hazard, the rules requiring Ordinances to be read on three (3)
several days is hereby suspended and this Ordinance shall take
effect from and after its passage and approval.
