RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS,
EXPRESSING SUPPORT TO AMEND THE TEXAS ELECTION CODE RELATING TO
CANCELLATION OF UNOPPOSED ELECTIONS; FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT
THE MEETING AT WHICH THIS RESOLUTION WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE
PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW.
WHEREAS, Texas Election Code Section 2.051 allows for the cancellation of
unopposed at -large candidate races; and
WHEREAS, in an effort to extend Section 2.051 to include cancellation of unopposed
single member district races when at -large races are opposed, this resolution will be presented
at the 2002 TML Annual Conference for passage and submission to the 78th Texas Legislature.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The City Council of Wichita Falls declares its support to amend
the Texas Election Code, Chapter 2, Subchapter C to permit cancellation of unopposed single
member district races.
SECTION 2: The City Council of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas urges the Texas
Municipal League to adopt this proposed amendment as part of its legislative program for the
Seventy- eighth Legislature regular session.
SECTION 3. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at
which this resolution was passed was open to the public as required by law.
