Res 038-2000 3/21/2000RESOLUTION NO. - RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE DALLAS 2012 COMMITTEE TO BRING THE 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES TO NORTH TEXAS AND THAT WICHITA FALLS/WICHITA COUNTY BE CHOSEN AS A HOST SITE FOR BICYCLING EVENTS TO BE HELD DURING THE 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES; FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT WHICH THIS RESOLUTION WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW. WHEREAS, the City of Wichita Falls supports and applauds the efforts of the Dallas 2012 Committee to bring the Olympics to North Texas; and WHEREAS, the Hotter`n Hell Hundred, the largest sanctioned century ride in the United States has been a vital part of Wichita Falls since 1982 and brings thousands of bicyclists and cycling enthusiasts to the city; and WHEREAS, thousands of Wichitans, as well as the City of Wichita Falls, donate time, money, effort and other resources to provide the logistical support to make the Hotter`n Hell Hundred a success; and WHEREAS, there is no place in all of the great State of Texas that can host bicycling events better than Wichita Falls; and WHEREAS, Wichita Falls has demonstrated, most recently by hosting the Dallas Cowboys Training Camp, that it can provide quality services and unmatched fan support; and WHEREAS, Midwestern State University, host of the Dallas Cowboys Training Camp has offered its support. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The City Council endorses the efforts of Senator Tom Haywood to have Wichita Falls/Wichita County named as a host site for the bicycling events of the 2012 Olympic Games. SECTION 2. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at which this resolution was passed was open to the public as required by law. PASSED AND APPROVED this the 21st day of March 2000.
