Min 05/08/2001 334 Wichita Falls, Texas Memorial Auditorium Building May 8,2001 Items 1 & 2 The City Council of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas met in special session on the above date in the Council Room of the Memorial Auditorium Building at 8:30 o'clock a.m., with the following members present: Jerry Lueck - Mayor Dan Shine - Mayor Pro Tern Arthur Bea Williams - Councilors Bill Altman - Johnny Burns - Harold Hawkins - James Berzina - City Manager Bill Sullivan - Acting City Attorney Lydia Torres - City Clerk James Esther, Jr. - Absent Mayor called the meeting to order. Mayor Pro Tern Shine gave the invocation. Item 3 The results of the City Election held on May 5, 2001 were canvassed by Mayor Lueck and City Clerk Lydia Torres. After the canvassing of the election returns the following ordinance was considered. ORDINANCE NO. 48-2001 ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS OF THE MUNICIPAL GENERAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS ON MAY 5, 2001; FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT WHICH THIS ORDINANCE WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW Moved by Councilor Burns that Ordinance No.48-2001 be passed. Motion seconded by Councilor Altman and carried by the following vote. Ayes: Mayor Lueck, Councilors Shine, Williams, Altman, Burns, and Hawkins Nays: None Councilor Williams and Councilor Altman made a presentation on behalf of the Council to outgoing Council Member Dan Shine. City Council recognized Councilor Dan Shine for his six years of service on the Council. Council expressed appreciation to Councilor Shine and presented him with a plaque, a portrait, and a gift. 335 Item 3 continued Councilor Shine congratulated Mrs. Linda Ammons for winning the District 1 race. He asked the citizens to respect those who run for office and encouraged citizens to run for office and to get out the vote. He reassured the citizens that the Council would work for them and continue to move our City forward. He stated that the Council has the citizens' best interests in mind and he urged the citizens to let the Council know what they want. He concluded by stating that his service on the Council had been gratifying. Item 4 City Clerk, Lydia Torres, administered the official oath of office to Arthur Beatrice Williams, Councilor At-Large, and Linda Ammons, Councilor District 1. City Council recessed at 9:10 a.m. A reception was held honoring outgoing Councilor Dan Shine and welcoming the newly elected officials. City Council reconvened at 9:55 a.m. In the absence of the Mayor and a Mayor Pro Tem, City Clerk Lydia Torres called the meeting to order. City Clerk called for a motion to appoint a temporary presiding officer. Moved by Councilor Altman that Councilor Burns be appointed as temporary presiding officer. Motion seconded by Councilor Williams and carried by the following vote. Ayes: Councilors Williams, Altman, Burns, and Hawkins Nays: None Councilor Burns, Temporary Presiding Officer, adjourned the meeting.
