Min 05/09/2000 82 Wichita Falls, Texas Memorial Auditorium Building May 9, 2000 Items 1 & 2 The City Council of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas met in special session on the above date in the Council Room of the Memorial Auditorium Building at 8:30 o'clock a.m., with the following members present: Kay Yeager - Mayor Dan Shine - Mayor Pro Tern Arthur Bea Williams - Councilors James Esther, Jr. - Bill Altman - Johnny Burns - Bud Beaty - James Berzina - City Manager Greg Humbach - City Attorney Lydia Torres - City Clerk Mayor Yeager called the meeting to order. Pete Martinez, Chaplain of the Fire Department, gave the invocation. Item 3 The results of the City election held on May 6, 2000, were canvassed by Mayor Yeager and City Clerk Lydia Torres. After the canvassing of the election returns an Ordinance was considered. ORDINANCE NO. 48-2000 ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS OF THE MUNICIPAL GENERAL AND SPECIAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS ON MAY 6, 2000: FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT WHICH THIS ORDINANCE WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW Moved by Councilor Altman that Ordinance No.48-2000 be passed. Motion seconded by Councilor Williams and carried by the following vote. Ayes: Mayor Yeager, Councilors Williams, Shine, Esther, Altman, Burns, and Beaty Nays: None Item 4 Presentations were made to outgoing Council Members. 83 Item 4 continued City Council recognized Councilor Bud Beaty for his two years in office. Council thanked him and presented him with a plaque, a picture, and a momento of a clock with the city logo. Councilor Beaty expressed appreciation to Council members, the staff, his wife, the citizens of Wichita Falls, and all his supporters. City Council recognized Mayor Kay Yeager for her four years of service and her valuable contributions to the City. Council thanked her and presented her with a plaque, a picture, and gifts as token of their appreciation. Mayor Yeager expressed appreciation to the Council appointees, the staff, and employees of the City for their help and support. She commented that all the progress and growth in our City could not have been possible without them. She thanked her family for all their support. Item 5 Mayor Pro-Tem, Dan Shine, recognized the Cunningham Student Council and read a proclamation in their honor applauding their zest and hard work. The Council commended the Student Council for representing their school and for their services in the community. Item 6 City Clerk, Lydia Torres, administered the official oath of office to Jerry Lueck, Mayor, Bill Altman, Councilor District 3, Johnny Burns, Councilor District 4, and Harold Hawkins, Councilor District 5. A reception was held after the Council meeting honoring outgoing Council members and welcoming newly elected officials. The City Council adjourned at 9:30 a.m. PASSED AND APPROVED this _day of 2000.
