Ord 1518 6/26/1950 to j� */-tz 2 n� ORDINANCE NO.J�+� AN ORDINANCE MAKING IT UNLAWFUL HEREAFTER FOR ANY PERSON, OPERATOR, a4NER OR LESSEE OF ANY AUTOMOBILE FOR HIRE OPERAT- ING WITHIN THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, TO CRUISE, AND DEFINING THE; TERM "CRUISE", AND PROVIDING A PENALTY THEREFOR, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS: Section 1. That it shall hereafter be unlawful for any person, operator, owner or lessee of any automobile for hire operating within the City of Wichita Falls, Texas, to cruise. Cruising shall consist of seeking, searching for or soliciting employment while operating an automobile for hire, by driving such automobile for hire on the public streets of the City of Wichita Falls and offer- ing accomodations thereof to prospective passengers either by signal, word of mouth or by carrying a sign with the word "vacant" thereon, or in any manner whatsoever o erating said vehicle upon the public streets of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas, for the purpose of soliciting passengers while said vehicle is unoccupied by a passenger. Section 2. Any person violating t ' s provision shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and, u n conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not less than Ten Dollars nor more than Two Hundred Dollars. Each and every a t constituting a violation hereof shall constitute a separate offense and be punished as such. Section 3. The fact that many t Lcab drivers are now cruis- ing the streets of this City seeking aid soliciting passengers, which practice greatly increases the traffic congestion and hazards in heavy traffic areas, creates an eme gency and an imperative pub- lic necessity, and the rule requiring the reading of ordinances on three separate days is hereby suspendel and this ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its passage and publication as pro- vided by law.
