WILLIS LLOYD C. THOMAS FRANCIS L. HARVEY J. R. RAY J. PAUL MONTGOMERY R. J. BROWN For the attention of his honor the Mayor and the City Council: Gentlemen: The Traffic Division, of the Police Department together with. Mr. George O'Steen of the Fire Department wishes to recommend an emergency "Fire Lane" to be placed on llth Street between Denver and Tyler Streets, which would be the 1900, 2000 and a portion of the 2.1.00 block. lLvenue A, approx- imately 70 ft. west of Harrison to the intersection of Tyler would also be included. This is a bus route, has a very I-,eavy school zone, new City Park features and the blue prints are drawn for a new church to be built, all on llth Street. 4e have oontacted most of the ,people that live in these blocks and none that we have talked with have rejected our ideas, but they are a bit selfish about placing a "Fire Lane" on one side. We do not think this will get the job done. We will have to completely eliminate the parking in this proposed zone. There is not enough room for a bus and car to pass if there is even one car parked in the street. idith the school zone now in effect and this proposed zone properly enforced the congestion should be very little. I.f, at a future date, the parkway is taken from the North side of llth Street and the adjacent blocks, which is under consideration by the school board, we may be able to have one side park- ing and that would have to be the south side of llth Street to make the school area safe. For safety measures there is no compromise to be made with the citizens as to which side is to be made a zone unless th.e eet is widened. Thank you for your kind consideration. ; George O'Steen Fire Marsh 1 MEJ:p M.E. Usoin;_ Traffic Captain
