Res 054-2001 5/15/2001RESOLUTION NO. - M1 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR A U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE COPS IN SCHOOLS GRANT TO PLACE AN ADDITIONAL POLICE OFFICER INTO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT TO TEACH THE DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION (D.A.R.E) PROGRAM; FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT WHICH THIS RESOLUTION WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW. WHEREAS, the City wishes to apply for a Department of Justice COPS In Schools grant in the amount of $158,450.40 of which $125,000.00 (78.9 %) is Federal monies and $33,450.40 (21.1 %) is budgeted City funds; and WHEREAS, subject to Department of Justice approval, the City intends to place an additional police officer into the school district to teach the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program beginning with the fall semester of the 2001 -2002 school year; and WHEREAS, the City's match for this grant will be budgeted item paid out in the following increments: first year $6,838.77; the second year $10,810.31; and the third year $15,801.32. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to apply for a U.S. Department Of Justice Cops In Schools Grant to place an additional police officer into the school district to teach the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) Program. SECTION 2. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at which this resolution was passed was open to the public as required by law.
