AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE 6 OF ORDINANCE NO. 998; CHANGING THE N9,1E
OF DEPARTMJENT OF ENGINEERING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AND ADDING
SECTION FIVE TO SUCH ARTICLE PROVIDING FOR A TRAFFIC ENGINEER AND TRAFFIC
ENGINEERING DIVISION IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AND REPEALING ALL
LAWS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERvIEN OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS,
SECTION 1. That article 6 of Ordinance No. 998 is hereby amended and
the Department of Engineering shall hereafter be called the Department of
Public Works and where ever the Department of Engineering is used in said
ordinance No. 998, the same being the Administrative Code of the City of
Wichita Falls, such Code shall hereafter read. as ?'Department of Public
Works".
SECTION 2. Article 6 of Ordinance No. 998 is amended and the follow-
ing section, the same being Section 5, is hereby added: The Department of
Public Works shall have an added division, the same to be called the Divi-
sion of Traffic Engineering, to be supervised by a qualified traffic engi-
neer, who shall make records of traffic accidents, surveys and plans; shall
have charge of all traffic signals, their design, installation, maintenance
and operation; shall design and install and maintain all traffic signs and
markers; shall install, remove and maintain all parking meters and shall
collect the moneys received by the same; shall issue all permits for build-
ing barricades and detours; shall coordinate all street lighting with ref-
erence to requirement and design and shall supervise the routes, stops and
service of all bus transportation within the City of Wichita Falls, with
regard to traffic control.
SECTION 3. Such duties and authorities shall be performed under and
by direction of the City Engineer who is the Director of the Department of
Public Works. Adequate personnel shall be maintained under the direct su-
pervision of the Traffic Engineer to carry out the aforenamed purposes.
