Ord 1670 10/12/1953 ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE PhOVIDING FOR CLASSIFICATION OF ALL FIREMEN UNDER
CIVIL SERVICE EMPLOYED BY THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY;
AND REPEALING ALL PRIOR ORDINANCES INCONSISTENT HEREWITH.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FAITS, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the following positions in the Fire Department
of the City of Wichita Falls are classified under Civil Service in compliance
with Section 8 of Article 1269m of the Revised Civil Statutes of Texas, as
amended, and they are hereby set out as follows:
(1) Recruit Firemen
(2) Firemen
(3) Driver
(4) Lieutenant
(5) Captain
(6) Assistant Fire Chief
(7) Positions at Large - Positions under Civil Service
to be filled by appointment, rather than promotion,
the same being:
(a) Operator
(b) Superintendent of Communications
(Such position to be filled by a person either
from the Fire or the Police Department of the
City of Wichita Falls, and in the event the same
is filled by a member of the Police Department,
then the same to remain vacant in the Fire
Department, and vice versa.)
SECTION 2. No other person employed by the City of Wichita Falls may
be classified as holding a position under Civil Service with the Fire Department .
SECTION 3. All prior ordinances inconsistent herewith are hereby
repealed.
SECTION 4. The fact that the new or current budget under which the
City of Wichita Falls is now operating creates additional positions within the
Civil Service, creates an emergency and this Ordinance shall be effective as of
October 1, 1953.
