It the present time, there is an ex's'.:ng ordinance, °tic. 1729, amending the Fire Prevention Code by adding a section, . °.ect.ioti 14, whereby all automatic sprinkler systems and alarm devices now ;n existence or any future installations thereof suet be connected with the Fire epartmentls central alarm roan, or to any approved commercial service which i* ar;.abliehed for se:Frrviaory equipment in the eentral alarm roam of the Fire Defer rent. This ordinance also contains other pertinent Claus ev e We have been approached recently by i very large firm which is going to build a big grocery store near 7th and Ac Lmv Street in thie city, and they are most concerned with, the requirements 3f the subject ordinance. We wish to point out that our Camewe:il Fire Alarm circuits are overloaded at the psent times and it seems most ilrvract; cal to enforce the requirement that all sprinkler systems must tie into ro,,- clam system., Such a regulation keeps sore firms from installing sprinkler systems, and this is penalising then as,they would be required to spend a considerable amount of money for the boot and the other necessary equipment; came firms would be penalised by having to pay a large monthly sum for cr=Arcial supervisory fees over long- term contracts for their sprinklers. Thtxv is no money allocated in the Fire Department budget for the erection of ads fl tonal installation of circuit wires to aeoosmodate added sprinkler systems. It- so happens in the particular inst --i►ce whler we have cited that there is a Gamemsll circuit near the locatir.w w-re the store is to be erected; stills our circuits are overloaded now beyond t ri rpec, mendation of the national Hoard of Fire Underwriters. It is our reco=endatian that the ; rr tent ordinance be rapealed by Council Action. 1Rugena Wtev Fire Mef . %Z "o Ep jr., Fire ire
