Res 03 2/26/1947 CITY OF WICHITA, F.AL } } STATE. OF TLW } MOIJJTION AUTHORIZING PRDUSES IN SHEFFADD FIM TO HE SUBLET TO TO DISTRESSED WAR VEMMS. WHEREAS, the City of Wichita Falls, Texas., is the owner of approxi- mately 604 acres, of land near said City; and whereas, on the 1st day of February, 1941, said City executed a lease on said property to the United States of America for a period of time ending on the 3ath day of June, 1966, at the option of the lessee; and mhereas, the United States of America built and constructed thereon-numerous buildings for the purpose of maintaining thereon an extensive Army Air Field known as Sheppard Fieldl and whereas, it appears that a -greaster portion of said buildings are no longer needed for war or Army purposes or any purpose directly connected therewith; and whereas,k it has been detern insd by the War Department that may of said buildings could. be .uti.li zed for temporary. housing for distressed families of servicemen, for-ve�tearsns and their familiea,. orsingle veterans attending educational institutions; and whereas,, it ins beam determined by the .Secretary of War that many of these buildings should be rightfully sublet to said servicemen or their families, to occupy said buildings at the will of the Secretary of 'der or the Chief of Engineers; and whereas,* said lease entered into between the United States of America and the City ©f Wichita Palls., Texas, did not provide for subletting said premises except for purely military purposes and direct war activities; and mhe r ea:s, formal application has been made to the lessor, the City of Wichita Falls* Texas, for permission to sublet some portion of said premises or all of said premises for the use and purposes aforesaid, to-vit: to provide for temporary housing for die- tressed families of services, for veterans and their families, or single veterans attending educational institutions; NOW, THEREFOREp BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Wichita Falb, Teas, acting by and through they duly qualified and aching Ccnmcil. .of said City, duly assembled for the purpose of transacting this and ;either similar busi.nses, that the lessee in said lease, the United 'States of America, .be and is hereby authorized and ampoered to sublet for the purposes above named any portion or an of said premises,, buildings, and appurtenances thereto, on the said land hereinafter described, during the We of said lease, not to extend beyond June 30, A.U. 1966; the legal description of said land. being as follows; to-wit: A tract of land, and building, improvements and appurtenances thsreunto belonging,, situated. in Wichita County, State of Texas$ containing approximately 16.2 acres, more- or less, said land being a tract-of land within Sheppard Field, :mora partioulary described as follows: Beginning at a point in the present Past rlght-of-tmg line of the U t S.
