Ord 2012 1/29/1963 A ORDINANCE. NO. ()---1 /7d---- AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2000, WHICH PROVIDED FOR CLASSIFICATION OF ALL FIREMEN UNDER CIVIL SERVICE, BY REDUCING THE NUMBER OF LIEUTENANTS FROM 27 TO 24, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Ordinance No. 2000, which provided for the classi- fication of all firemen under Civil Service, is hereby amended by changing the number of positions in Classification III, Lieutenants, from 27 to 24. SECTION 2. The fact that there are now three vacancies in the classification of lieutenants, and the eligibility list for firemen has been voided, and it will take some to give an examination from which to prepare a new eligibility list, creates an emergency, and in order to protect the public safety and welfare, it is declared that this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage. Hodge, Jr., City Attorney SUBJECT: Reduction by ordinance number of lieutenants in the fire department COMMENT: At the Civil Service Hearing held on January 24y the Civil Service Cession ruled that the examination held December 28 for the Lieutenants? Eligibility List in the Eire Department was void, for the reason that no notice was posted in the alarm room in Station 5. Under the Civil Service Laws all 'vacancies in a classi-- fication must be filled within ninety days after a vacancy occurs; furtther, examination to create eligibility lists shall be held within ninety dais after a vacancy occurs unless an eligibility list is in existence., As this Lieutenants' Eligibility i ibil ity List has been voided, and the ninety day period will exp pp ire approximate],te],- B ry 1, 1963, it will be impossible to hold new examinations ` ` ,!! these three vacancies in the lieutenants classification within the time period. Therefore, we will be in technical,violation of the ordinance if these vacancies continue t-o east. &, For this reason, it is the recommendation ome th- he Civil Service Classification Ordinance be amended to reduce the number of lieutenants from 27 to 24. y HP Jras
