Ord 2018 3/11/1963 ORDINANCE NO . 2018 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CLASSIFICATION OF ALL FIREMEN UNDER CIVIL SERVICE EMPLOYED BY THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS; REPEALING ALL PRIOR ORDINANCES INCONSISTENT HEREWITH, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the 30th District Court of Wichita County, Texas has adjudged that Ordinance No . 2,000, which was passed and approved on the 22nd day of October, 1962, by this Board of Aldermen of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas created a new classification within the meaning of Section 1)4(G) of Article 1269M, Revised Civil Statutes of Texas, as amended; and WHEREAS, this Board of Aldermen had no intention of so creating a new classification; and WHEREAS, it has been made apparent that there is dis- satisfaction with the results of said Ordinance No. 2,000 by both -the firemen of the City of Wichita Falls and this legis- lative body of the City of Wichita Falls; and WHEREAS, we find it desirable to return the organization of the Fire Department of the City of Wichita Falls to a state substantially identical to that which existed prior to the enactment of Ordinance No . 2,000. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the following positions in the Fire Department of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas are classified under Civil Service in compliance with Section 8 of Article 1269M of the Revised Civil Statutes of Texas, as amended, and they are hereby set out as follows: CLASSIFICATIONS NUMBER OF BASE MONTHLY LASSIFIC( TIONS TITLE POSITIONS PAY Unclassified Recruit-Fireman 0-6 Mos. No other person employed by the City of Wichita Falls may be classified as holding a position under Civil Service with the Fire Department of said City. SECTION 3. All prior ordinances, or portions thereof, inconsistent herewith, are hereby repealed. SECTION 4.. The fact that the City of Wichita Falls Fire Department classification system ,is presently in a state of uncertainty for the above recited reasons , and the need to pro- tect the public safety and welfare by providing suitable classi- fications in keeping with the letter, purpose and intent of the Civil Service Law which are acceptable to this body, and the individual fireman and citizen, creates an emergency, it is there- tore declared that this ordinance shall become effective imme- diately upon its passage.
