AN ORDINANCE CALLING AN ELECTION FOR A PROPOSED
AMENDMENT TO THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF WICHITA
FALLS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS,
TEXAS 2
SECTION 1. That an el:ction shall be held in said City on
the 29th day of October, 1963, at the several polling plaices named
in Resolution No . 513.
SECTION 2. At said election the following proposition shall
be submitted
Shall Section 10 of the Charter of the City of Wichita FallS
be amended to read as followsg
"Section 100 Th Board of Aldermen shall consist of a Mayor
and ten Aldermen.
The Mayor is to be el:cted from the City at large , to serve
for a period of two years, or until his successor has been duly
elected and has so qualified.
The Aldermen shall be elected, one etch from ten wards , to be
set up with due regard for equal distribution of the population
of such City, and each Ald:rman shall b a resident of such
ward for et least twelve months prior to his election, and
should he move from the ward befor: th: expiration of his term
of office , then at a special :1:ction the qualified voters of
such ward shall elect a successor to serve the remainder of his
term. Only qualifj oters from each ward may cast ballots
for the position of Alderman in the ward in which such voter
resides . Aldermen are to be :1:cted for a period of two years ,
except the election in 1964, in which five Aldermen would be
elected for a period of one year and five Aldermen elected for
a period of two years.
City elections shall be held on the first Tuesday of April of
each year. At such election held in 1964, a Mayor and ten
Aldermen shall be elected. That at such election held in 1965,
and each odd numbered year thereafter fiv: Aldermen shall be
elected, in the election of 1966 and each even numbered year
thereafter, a Mayor and five Aldermen shall b elected. "
SECTION 30 Notice of this election shall be given by posting
a substantial copy of this Ordinance in each of the election pre-
cincts and also at the City Hall. Also , notice shall b given by
publication in a newspaper of general circulation published in the
City on the same date in each of two successive weeks; the date of
the first publication to be not less than fourtein days prior to the
date set for said election. Th: form of such notice shall be a
substantial copy of this Ordinance.
