May 9, 2014

I. CALL TO ORDER
Katrena Mitchell, Chair, called the meeting to order.
II. REVIEW & APPROVAL OF FEBRUARY MINUTES
The minutes from the ASAC Meeting on February 14, 2014 were distributed and reviewed. Mrs.
Herzog made the motion to accept these minutes with a second by Mr. Dodge. Motion was carried.
III. OLD BUSINESS
Ms. Mitchell informed the committee that as of April 18, 2014 the adoption ordinance went into effect,
Since then animal services has done nine adoptions with three or four more pending approval. Mrs.
Herzog asked if any of the adoptions have been pit bulls. Ms. Mitchell advised that our first adoption
was a pit bull. Ms. Mitchell explained that anybody can come in and if they see something that we
don't have tagged or the Humane Society has tagged and has no place to go can start the approval
process and get them vetted out. Ms. Mitchell also stated that almost all of the puppies and kittens that
have been adopted out and were too young to be spayed or neutered prepaid for the surgery with their
vet. Councillor Smith asked if animal Services had heard anything from the flea market about the new
ordinances. Mrs. Mitchell informed the committee that Mr. Dodge went and talked to them in person.
Mr. Dodge informed the committee that he spoke to the manager and he was very receptive and he
understood, Mr. Dodge also informed them that they would need to get singular permits. Mrs. Kreidler
asked Mr. Dodge if animal service where patrolling the flea mart on the weekends. Mr. Dodge
responded that he knew they did last weekend but would make sure they continued too. Ms. Mitchell
also informed the committee that nine days ago the new breeder ordinances went into effect. Ms.
Mitchell informed the committee that there are a couple of citizens that were bringing in their
information to obtain a permit and they we have citizens that are diligent in informing us on violations
as well. Ms. Mitchell also informed the committee that a lot of the ads on craigslist and other social
media sites state that the live in Burkburnett, Iowa Park and other cities. Councillor Smith asked if
Animal Services had any response to the feral cat/ barn cat program. Ms. Mitchell responded that
Animal Services hasn't had any response to the program as of yet and that the shelter hasn't had many
cats the last month or so.
IV. NEW BUSINESS
Ms. Mitchell informed the committee that animal services may be doing an expansion to add an
adoption wing. Ms. Mitchell also informed the committee at an individual came in and inquired about
helping with funding. Mrs. Kreidler informed the committee that the citizen had been out to tour the
facility without anyone knowing and like the building the way it looked and asked if animal services
thought about adding and adoption wing and he would like to contribute to that project, that he and his
wife loved animals she also informed the committee the city still had some bond money left over from
where we built the building. Mrs. Kreidler informed the committee that they were putting some
information together for him and the trust that he's involved in. She stated that he and he's late wife set
up a trust to help a number of animal organizations, she state it's still very early but still exciting.
Councillor Smith asked if the citizen wanted to remain anonymous, because we could call the new
wing the Mary Doe adoption center. Mrs. Kreidler stated that he did ask her about that and she told me
that they would be happy to. Ms. Mitchell informed the committee that the chain off program is going
well that she was still waiting to hear from Alice on the exact numbers, that they are still processing
applications. Councillor Smith stated that we've done a lot in the last few years and I was wondering
what was next but the adoption center that's good. Ms. Mitchell informed the committee that Dr.
Hoffman emailed and informed that the meeting aren't working out with her schedule, so 1 left message
with another veterinarian to see if they are interested in joining the board. Councillor Smith asked
about the rabies situation in Wichita Falls if five cases were normal, less than normal? Mr. Dodge
replied that it was unusual. Mrs. Kreidler replied that it was unusual to have such a high number this
early in the year. Ms. Mitchell replied that last year we had three total, and they were spread out.
Councillor asked if it had anything to do with the drought? Mr. Dodge replied "yes sir", that going to
rise it up a little bit. Councillor Smith asked about the fox that was on the news, and if anyone heard
about the colony that was over by the City's transfer station where they are building the new
apartments. Mr. Dodge replied that he hasn't heard anything about them lately.
ADJOURN
Ms. Mitchell advised that the next ASAC meeting is set for Friday August 8, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. Mrs.
Herzog made the motion to adjourn. Mr. Dodge seconded the motion to adjourn. Motion carried and
all were in favor.
