WHEREAS, Midwestern University has been a definite Edu-
cational asset to the people of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas,
and a large surrounding area; and.,.
WHEREAS, Midwestern has been
local citizens and others, and by
Junior College District; and,
financed by the philanthropy of
a tax on a limited area, for a
WHEREAS, additional financing has been received from tuition
fees and from the State of Texas; and,
WHEREAS, Midwestern University serves an area which greatly
exceeds that area of the State of Texas, from which revenue is
obtained for its support as a local institution; and,
WHEREAS, the State of Texas has recently passed by appropriate
legislation, a bill which will assume the responsibility for the
operation of Midwestern University as a State School, and in turn
the citizens of Wichita Falls have agreed to give.to the State a
school property of the approximate value of five and a half million
dollars ($5,500,000.00); and,
WHEREAS, we believe that it is to the best interest of the`,.7
people of this City and of the State of Texas, that said school be
operated as a part of the Educational System of the State of Texas
as a regularly accredited Four -year University, granting Graduate
Degrees, as well; and,
WHEREAS, the legislationthat has been passed has been as a
result of the combined efforts of hundreds of people in all walks
of life and in all professions, not only locally, but people who
are interested in the welfare of the State as well;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY-THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF
THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS:.
THAT the City of Wichita Falls express its gratitude to the
Legislature of the State of Texas; to the Governor of such State;'
to the Educators of the State; to the people of the City of Wichita
Falls, and all other persons whose names would unduly lengthen
this resolution, far 'their help and cooperation in obtaining this
most desirable legislation. That our appreciation and thanks to
these people be expressed in the form of this Resolution; that a
copy be sent to the two Houses of the Legislature, to the Governor
of Texas; to Midwestern University, and to the Press, Radio and
T V and that a copy of the same be spread upon our minutes to re-
flect the gratitude of the people of this community for this
progressive step forward 'toward better education for the students
of college age in this area of Texas..
