AN ORDINANCE CALLING AN ELECTION ON A PROPOSED AMENDMENT '
TO THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS. .
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF
WICHITA' FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. An election shall be held in said City on the
31st day of January , 1967, at the
several polling places, as follows:

SECTION 2. At said election the following proposition shall
be submitted:
Shall the Charter of the City of Wichita Falls be amended by
adding a section which reads as follows:
"All members of the Fire Department of the City of Wichita Falls
engaged in fire fighting or in the suppression of fire shall be paid the
same monthly compensation as members of the Police Department of the City
of Wichita Falls, Texas, in accordance with the following schedule:
1. The Chief of the Fire Department shall receive the same
monthly compensation as the Chief of the Police Department.
2. The Assistant Chief in the Fire Department shall receive the
same monthly compensation as the Assistant Chief in the Police Department.
If there is no Assistant Chief in the Police Department, then the Assistant
Chief in the Fire Department shall receive compensation to be determined by
the Board of Aldermen in accordance with recommendations of the Civil Service
Commission of a sum not less than the compensation paid to the Battalion
Chief in the Fire Department, n r more than the sum paid to the Chief in
the Fire Department.

3. The Battalion Chief in the Fire Department shall receive
the same monthly compensation as the Battalion Chief in the Police Depart-
ment. If there is no Battalion Chief in the Police Department, then the
Battalion Chief in the Fire Department shall receive compensation to be
determined by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Wichita. Falls, in
accordance with the recommendations of the Civil Service Commission, which
compensation shall not exceed the compensation paid to the Assistant Chief
in the Fire Department and shall not be less than the compensation received
by the Captain in the Fire Department.
4. A Captain in the Fire Department shall receive the same
monthly compensation as the Captain in the Police Department.
5. A Lieutenant in the Fire Department shall receive the same
compensation as a Lieutenant in the Police Department.
6. The Fire Equipment Operator in the Fire Department shall
receive the same monthly compensation as the Sergeant in the Police Depart-
ment.
7. A Fireman in the Fire Department shall receive the same monthly
compensation as a Policeman in the Police Department.
8. The Mechanic Alarm Maintenance Man in the Fire Department
shall receive the same compensation as a Captain in the Police Department.
9. The Communications Supervisor in the Fire Department shall
receive the same compensation as a Lieutenant in the Police Department.
10. The Communications Officer in the Fire Department shall re-
ceive the same compensation as a Sergeant in the Police Department.
11. Any additional classification of members of the Fire Depart-
ment shall provide for equivalent classification in the Police Department;
equivalent classifications of said Departments shall receive equal monthly
compensation."
SECTION 3. The official ballots for said election shall have
printed thereon the following:
"For an amendment to the Charter of the City of Wichita Falls
• requiring the payment of equal compensation to the members of the Fire
Department and the members of the Police Department of the City of Wichita
Falls."
"Against an amendment to the Charter of the City of Wichita Falls
requiring the payment of equal compensation to the members of the Fire
Department and the members of the Police Department of the City of Wichita
Falls."

SECTION 4. Notice of this election shall be given by posting
a substantial copy of this ordinance in each of the election precints and
also at the City Hall. Also, notice shall be given by publication in a
newspaper of general circulation published in the City on the same day
in each of two successive weeks; the date of the first publication shall
be not less than fourteen days prior to the date set for said election.
The form of such notice shall be a substantial copy of this ordinance.
