WHEREAS, Section 218 (p) of Title II of the Federal Social Security Act
has been amended to permit participation of policemen and firemen in posi-
tions covered by a retirement system; and,
WHEREAS, the policemen and the firemen of the City of Wichita Falls,
Texas, have requested that the Board of Aldermen ask the Texas State Depart-
ment of Public Welfare to hold an election by the policemen of said City
and to hold an election by the firemen of said City to determine whether or
not they wish to have Federal Old Age, Survivors and Disability Insurance
coverage in addition to the existing retirement systems .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS : In order to meet the requirements of Section 218 (p) of
Title II of the Federal Social Security Act, as amended, this Board of
Aldermen requests the Texas State Department of Public Welfare to hold
as expeditiously as possible a referendum of the policemen end a referendum
of the firemen as required in said law and in House Bill 603, Acts of the
Fifty-Second Legislature of the State of Texas, 1951.
