Res 598 4/26/1965RESOLUTION NO. 598 WHEREAS, under authority of a resolution adopted February 25, 1938, by the Committee on Rivers and Harbors, House of Representatives, the Corps of Engineers, United States Army, has made an investigation of Holliday Creek to determine the feasibility of providing improvements for flood protection at Wichita Falls, Texas; and, WHEREAS, the plan proposed by the Corps of Engineers for flood protection at Wichita Falls provides for a diversion channel and appurtenant works to divert flood flows from Holliday Creek. to the Little Wichita River Basin; and, WHEREAS, the plan proposed by the Corps of Engineers provides that the existing Lake Wichita dam, spillway, and low- flow outlet works be modified and strengthened to meet the Corps of Engineers ' criteria for a reservoir above a metropolitan area; and, WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers estimates the cost of such project to be $9, 960 , 000.00 , with the City' s share of such cost amounting to $5, 932, 000.00 . WHEREAS, at this time the Board of Aldermen do not feel that they can conscientiously enter into this program on account of the cost thereof, but they do wish to make a study to see if the City can provide such a flood control project on a local basis for less expense. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, that the Corps of Engineers is hereby advised that the City of Wichita Falls respectfully declines to participate in this program with the Corps of Engineers.
