Res 870 11/19/1968RESOLUTION NO. 870 WHEREAS, it appears that library editions of children' s books have been purchased by the State of Texas and its agencies and by public school districts in Texas, directly or indirectly from publishers and wholesalers at fixed and excessive prices resulting from an illegal conspiracy in restraint of commerce or otherwise in violation of federal anti-trust laws; and, WHEREAS, the Attorney General of the State of Texas, acting in his official capacity to protect and further the inter- ests of the State and its public agencies, has undertaken to institute appropriate federal treble damage anti-trust proceed- ings on behalf of the State of Texas and to act as the legal representative of Texas public school districts in such contem- plated suit, to recover whatever damages may have resulted, entirely without cost or expense to the undersigned. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS: That Crawford C. Martin, Attorney General of Texas, is hereby authorized to take any and all legal actions, institute such legal proceedings and effect such settlements thereof as he may deem appropriate to recover for this City, such damages as may have been incurred in purchases of library editions of children' s books, the price of which was affected by violations of the federal anti-trust laws.
