Ord 3032 11/4/1975 ORDINANCE NO. �oZ AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE IV OF ORDINANCE NO. 3000, REQUIRING VACCINATION OF CATS FOR RABIES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS , THAT: SECTION 1. Article IV of Ordinance No. 3000, is hereby amended to read as follows : "ARTICLE IV Rabies Control Section 29. Reporting rabid dogs and cats . It shall be the duty of the owner, and the harborer, and the practicing vet- erinarian to report to the Director of Public Health all cases of rabies with which he comes in contact or to which his atten- tion has been directed. This report shall be made immediately upon diagnosis or suspicion of such cases of rabies. Section 30. Quarantining of dogs and cats exposed to rabies. Any dog or cat that has rabies or symptoms thereof or that has had positive exposure to rabies shall be at once re- leased to the Animal Warden for disposal or, at the direction of the Director of Public Health, confined in a veterinary hospital approved by the Director of Public Health and shall not be re- leased until a regimen of anti-rabies treatment has been administered. Section 31. Vaccination required. It shall be unlawful for the owner of any dog or any cat to keep or maintain such dog or cat unless it shall have been vaccinated by a licensed vet- erinarian or approved anti-rabies clinia with rabies vaccine within one (1) year preceding the date on which such dog or cat is kept and maintained. Section 32. Vaccination of redeemed dogs and cats. Any dog or cat at the City Animal Control Center must be vaccinated against rabies subject to the provisions of Section 31 of this article within seventy-two (72) hours of being redeemed. " -2- SECTION 2. The fact that the lack of adequate rabies vaccination requirements constitutes a danger to the citizens of the City of Wichita Falls, this ordinance is declared an emergency measure on the ground of urgent public need for the preservation of the peace and health of the city, and it shall go into effect immediately upon its passage.
