ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2840 TO INCREASE
TO $4, 000. 00 THE EXEMPTION FROM AD VALOREM TAXES
OF THE ASSESSED TAXABLE VALUE OF RESIDENCE HOME-
STEADS OF PERSONS SIXTY-FIVE YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER,
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. Section 1 of Ordinance No. 2840 is hereby
amended to increase the exemption stated therein from
$3, 000. 00 to $4, 000. 00.
SECTION 2. Such increased exemption of $4, 000. 00
shall apply to taxes for the year 1976 and subsequent years.
SECTION 3. In some cases payment of ad valorem taxes
on their homesteads creates a hardship on elderly people;
as tax statements will be sent out shortly, this ordinance
is declared an emergency measure on the ground of urgent
public need for the preservation of the peace, health and
safety of property of the City, and it shall become effec-
tive immediately upon its adoption.

1976.
